Impressions explores different levels of human interaction, from self-perception to the dynamic constructs of paired and group relationships. The drive of this work is to blend and contradict the social significance of the normal and to question the constructs of self and beauty. These ideas have evolved specifically around individuals that have shared biological, surgical and chemical scarring, attempting to interpret and embody the individuals and their relationships to their physical scar, by focusing on the perceived deformity. Fabricated accessories frame and highlight the body by combining traditional decorative methods and materials of metal, fiber and found objects. The body is both the subject and the medium for my work. Its strength lies in the presence of these different elements and ideas representing the body. The result is the deconstruction and beautification of what is normally considered a defect.
